Where is Edinburgh?
Edinburgh is the capital and second largest city in Scotland, the northernmost country of the UK. The city is situated in the south east of Scotland on the Firth of Forth and is near to the eastern coast and the North Sea. Edinburgh is a large city but not too large, with around half a million people living here.

The Old Town is the Medieval part of Edinburgh, whilst the New Town is the Georgian-built part of the city, and full of great shopping. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Edinburgh Festival
One of the most popular festivals in the world is the Edinburgh Festival, a collection of different festivals held during the summer. If you’re on a summer study abroad program you should definitely take time out to attend some of the hundreds of events which take place around the city during this time. Festivals include the Fringe, the Tattoo and the International Festival. Also popular are Hogmanay (New Year), and Burns Night (25 January).
