London is one of the world’s most popular cities for tourists and language travel students. There’s always something to see and do in London, from nightlife to shopping to sightseeing, this is a great study abroad destination.
London is best known for being a lively city with a vibrant nightlife and entertainment. Language travel students can also enjoy the history of the city and the many famous attractions when studying in one of the numerous foreign language schools in London.
London is in the south east of England in the United Kingdom and is situated on the River Thames. London is the capital of England and it’s also the largest city in the country too, with a population of around 7.5 million people.
You could probably study abroad in London for years and still not get to see all the tourist attractions on offer here in the city, as there’s plenty of things to see and do for language travel students! The most famous attractions in London include the modern attractions such as the London Eye, shopping on Oxford Street and watching a show in the West End.
Then there are all the historical attractions too – places like the spooky Tower of London and the London Dungeons, impressive buildings including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s Column as well as the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.
Being such an old city you can experience more cultural heritage in London than you can in many other cities. History is a part of everyday life in London, and although they may not admit it, Londoners are proud of their city, its history and its culture. London has always attracted visitors and is the archetypal destination for a study abroad program – what better place to study English abroad than in the capital of England?!
London is a very culturally rich city – the arts and entertainment can be found all over the city in the form of theatres, clubs, cinemas and more. Many Londoners are passionate about their football (soccer) teams and many of the famous English clubs are based right here in London. Maybe you could take time out from your foreign language school to watch Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham or one of the other major teams playing a match?!
London’s climate is classified as temperate marine but if you don’t know what this means don’t worry – basically London is a mild city, never too hot and never too cold! Rainfall is not really high throughout the year, but it should be expected at any time of the year, summer or winter. July and August are the warmest months, with highs in the 20’s C, whilst January and February are the coldest months with highs only dropping down to 8C.
